Judging Forms and Requirements

Requirements to become an Apprentice:

Requirements for Apprentice Applicants:

  1. Apply for entry into Judges' training program before July 1 to be considered for the following year.
  2. Have three years of continuous AIS membership.
  3. Successfully complete a minimum of three sessions totaling ten hours.
  4. Obtain recommendations of five Accredited Judges.
  5. Own a copy of the most recent edition of "Handbook for Judges and Show Officials."

Apprentice Requirements:

  1. Maintain continuous AIS membership
  2. Complete two, two-hour sessions of garden training under different instructors.
  3. Complete two, two-hour sessions of exhibition training under different instructors.
  4. Successfully complete a two-hour course on awards and balloting.
  5. Complete all requirements within three years after becomming an Apprentice.
  6. Complete activity report each year.

 Maintaining Garden/Exhibition Judge Status:

  1. Maintain continuous AIS membership.
  2. Vote the "Official Ballot" each year.  Failure to do so for two consecutive years results in automatic disqualification. Casting a late ballot is the same as not voting.
  3. Complete five hours training every three years. (At least two hours of the five must be in Garden training.)
  4. Complete annual activity report

Maintaining Master Judge Status:

  1. Maintain continuous AIS membership.
  2. Vote  the "Official Ballot" each year.  Failure to do so for two consecutive years results in automatic disqualification.  Casting a late ballot is same as not voting.
  3. Complete three hours training every three years.  (At least one hour of the three must be in Garden training.)
  4. Complete annual activity report.

Maintaining Emeritis Judge Status:

  1. Emeritus status is maintained as long as AIS membership remains continuous.
